Astrology, Above All, Is the Study of Timelines

Updated: Oct 21

Every line of time has a beginning — the emergence of something, its existence, and its gradual disappearance. Therefore, astrology, like everything in nature, follows the rhythm of birth, growth, and decline.

We don’t know exactly when it all began, but through astrology, we can isolate a specific period of time in order to study it. These timelines can be observed on an individual level or on a collective one — known as mundane astrology.

From this collective perspective, we study the astrological ages, which are based on the precession of the equinoxes — a slow backward tilt of Earth’s axis as it moves through space, passing through the constellations (the zodiac signs) along the ecliptic, the belt of the celestial equator. It’s worth noting that not all astrologers agree on this theory.

In this collective view, we study the astrological ages, which are based on the precession of the equinoxes, the backward tilt movement of the Earth's axis, which moves through space, passing through the constellations (signs) along the ecliptic, the belt of the equator. It is worth noting that not all astrologers confirm this theory.

Each age lasts around 2160 years in each sign; what is called the “Great Year” is this number multiplied by 12 = 25,920 years, meaning a complete cycle through the entire zodiac.

Currently, it is believed that we are at the end of the Age of Pisces, which began around the year 0 A.D. in the Gregorian calendar, and we have already perceived the beginning of a new Age. This is why so much is said about the New Age, the Age of Aquarius.

We then realize that there are two movements occurring: one in the clockwise direction, the movement of the planets and stars, and the other in the counterclockwise direction, the rotation of the Earth.

We also notice that time moves in circles or cycles; we just need to observe the movement of the sun in the sky to assume this. This is how we created the clock, a tool that indicates an angle of the sun's direction, reflecting something that concerns our reality.

When it is noon, the sun illuminates everything; it is at the center of the sky. When our clock strikes midnight, it is at the bottom of the sky, and it is night.

The natal chart is a tool, just like a clock, which also has 360 degrees and is divided into 12 parts, the astrological houses, each 30 degrees.

The general function of the natal chart is to be a canvas where we observe the positioning of the planets, which indicate the quality of that moment, just as a clock indicates the hours.

The difference is that the clock only marks the position of the sun, while the natal chart shows the position of the planets and many other celestial objects, such as asteroids, including the aspects they form with each other.

There are larger cycles like those of Pluto, which last approximately 248 years, and smaller ones like the moon, which changes signs every 2 and a half days, completing a full cycle in 28-29 days.

The planets are like the hands of the clock that move progressively, each at its own pace; they move through the passage of time and form angles, conversing with each other in this way. In the middle is consciousness, generated from a central point that unites all parts and observes the passage of time, perceiving the reality and nature of the macro and microcosm.

It is worth remembering that this is a simplified view of a very complex topic debated in astronomical and astrological circles. My intention with this article is to present my point of view and introduce the idea of the natal chart as an immense cosmic clock.

Now tell me, did it enlighten something for you? Leave a comment so I can know.
